What is a heuristic virus

My antivirus program detects a heuristic virus, what is it?
Last updated 04-24-2010

Heuristic analysis is a method implemented in many antivirus programs. It is designet to detect previously-unknown viruses and new variants of current viruses, before they infect your computer. This means that the anti-virus program try to "guess" which programs that may harm your computer. It also means, that there may be chances of your antivirus catching a false positive, putting "good" programs to guarantee. This often happens to hacks, because they are made to inject into a process.

On Tobys Counter-Strike, we only post hacks that we believe contains no virus or malware at all. All cheats and hacks are scanned for virus/malware, and if a heuristic virus is found, we use our common sense. This of course means that you cannot be 100 % safe, this is a chance you have to take if you want to cheat. We strongly recommend that you use a sandbox environment to test/run your hacks.
